Eric Kanigan is an award-winning Canadian-American photographer based in Connecticut, who is driven to corners of the globe in search of some of the planet's most striking scenes.
Many of Eric’s early years were spent in the pool and the ocean in Miami—not mastering his stroke to swim competitively, but floating at the surface with his face submerged, testing how many lengths he could make it on a single breath, or letting the waves crash over him on Sunday mornings at South Beach with his dad. He loved the feeling of being underwater—the quiet and wonder it offered.
He would go on to earn a bachelor’s degree in both biology and Spanish, with his courses in ecology influencing him the most. The core premise that organisms and species are connected, no matter how disparate in appearance or behavior, inspires much of his work today.
Eric takes his audience with him above and below the surface, sharing stories and subjects that not everyone may have the opportunity to witness firsthand. His images and writing aim to highlight commonalities where others might initially see differences. He seeks not to lecture, but to inspire individuals to develop their own thoughts on the environmental, social, and ethical questions we face today. Eric hopes that others might recognize some of themselves in the people and wildlife with whom we are fortunate to share our planet.
In collaboration with some of the world’s leading print labs, Eric instills permanence and longevity into his work—qualities he hopes may also characterize the scenes and subjects themselves through conservation and action.
