Step into the realm of a mountain gorilla, and you're crossing the barrier between light and shadow.
You leave the morning sun behind for the murky jungle floor—a place where the light dims and the air thickens. This, combined with the dense, tangled forest, is a large part of why photographing these animals proves so difficult.
It’s in this thicket you realize how poorly equipped you are for the terrain—but how masterfully adapted they are. The same branches and bushes that require a guide’s machete and a host of acrobatics to traverse are brushed aside by a 400-pound body as if they were made of styrofoam.
Spend a morning with one of these leaders, and you may feel the blunt reminder of his presence—a shoulder check as he passes. You might see chest-beating. A flash of jagged teeth. A fresh, open gash. A face—stark, commanding, galactic black—reminiscent of the villainous mask from George Lucas’ iconic creation.
More often, though, you’ll witness something entirely different:
A quiet, gentle, and measured creature—gazing intently. Watching over his family. Leading his troop with calm authority. Cuddling a little one against his broad chest.
In German, “Vader” means “father.”
And it’s the being beneath the power—the protector, the provider—who earns his title best.

Archival Pigment Prints
Modern printmaking, refined. Pigment prints utilize state-of-the-art digital technology and high-quality pigment-based inks to achieve striking reproductions. A digital image is applied directly onto the paper using precision inkjet printers, ensuring both image quality and longevity.
Vision meets the surface. Archival papers differ in weight, material, and texture. A paper is chosen to best suit the intent of the piece, from satin finishes to enhance rich shadows and colors, to handmade Japanese rice paper that offers a more textured and vintage feel.
The edition size ensures that only the number of prints indicated will ever be produced. Each print is proofed, reviewed, numbered, and signed by Eric, and includes a Certificate of Authenticity that is unique to your artwork.
